We’re ready for the new school year!

Staff are working to get things ready for you.

Language learning is a “whole brain” activity, which means there’s something in it for everyone, young and old, beginner and advanced. We have a program in place that starts with the learner and builds their skills with a plan of appropriate challenges for every level.

Some quick highlights this year:

  • We will be at our current location on SE Division for the whole school year.
  • New structures in place to help parents follow students’ progress: curriculum summaries, school displays during regular festivals, etc.
  • New in the library: Revised reading-level grouping to help you find the right book. A section of board books for the youngest readers. Check out our other media, too!
  • Opportunities for family involvement: when we work together, so many things get done—some we wouldn’t have even thought of, until the right volunteer came along!
  • Tests available this year (contact us for details)

American Association of Teachers of German (AATG): for middle and high school students. Some schools accept this as part of a case for foreign language credit.

Deutsches Sprachdiplom (German Language Certificate): Tests available at levels A2-C1. Accepted internationally as a measure of proficiency. Must register early for spring testing.

Dates to note:

First Thursday evening classes: September 2, 6:30-8:00.

  • Beginning teens & adults
  • Intermediate Adults

New student open house: September 11, 10:00-11:00. Come meet the teachers, have a look around. This is a nice, informal chance to get to know each other and make preliminary class placements. (New advanced teens should also come at this time.)

First Saturday classes: September 18, 10:00-12:30. (No choir time before class this week.) All students attend their regular classes. (Advanced teens start at 9:30) Parent meeting, 11:45.

We’d like to hear from you soon, especially if you are interested in either of these programs:

  • An advanced teen class on the odd-numbered Saturdays of each month, with a focus on fine points of grammar, as well as spoken and written analysis: the skills students’ need, who intend to study German or to study in a German-speaking country. Teacher recommendation required. Contact the director at school.director@gssop.com.
  • A “true beginner” class for teens and adults. Never had any? Forgot it all? But still want to learn it? This is the class for you! If you’re interested, contact school.director@gssop.com.
